Swap+Estilo Summer Swap a Huge Success
This past weekend on Saturday, 14th of May, sustainable and conscious fashionistas gathered for the latest Swap+Estilo clothes swap, at San Eugenio, Costa Adeje. Wondering what a Swap+Estilo clothes swap is? Swap+Estilo is a sustainable fashion event series that I set up with my fellow sustainability expert, and founder of Slow & Co, Kim de Coster. The aim is to help reduce the amount of discarded clothes ending up in landfill each year by giving them new life, as well as encouraging fashion lovers to engage in a more eco conscious way of shopping, by enabling them to swap pieces they no longer wear, with other pre-loved or vintage items.
And our Summer Swap event was a resounding success. Opened by the utterly gorgeous Miss Curvy International Tenerife, Melanie Herrera Reyes, the event was attended by an impressive turn out of fashion lovers and swappers. And every single one of them left with fabulous new pieces to add to their summer wardrobes.
All participants brought items they no longer wear to add to the ‘Swap Shop’, which was open for everyone to choose ‘new’ items from. The inspiring day also included interesting talks on sustainability and fashion, a wardrobe workshop by Julian Nendel , and healthy vegan food and drinks.
It was wonderful to see the women realise how fabulous second hand fashion can be. But also, to see them trying on clothes they would have never have previously dared to wear, which ended up really suiting them. There was also a lot of great networking between the women! And we couldn’t have done it without our sponsors and collaborators, including Flor & Amor, Gaia Canarias and Rebelde Esencial. And we’re planning to start running the initiative as a regular event across the Canaries, Spain, Europe and further afield. So watch this space!
