Animal print just never goes out of fashion. And it’s about to see yet another comeback with Tom Ford’s latest collection featuring a leopard print motif in black and white. I can already tell these pieces are going to be some of my season favourites yet again. Not his first trip down animal print lane, Ford used leopard print in his Fall Winter 2018 collection, this time in popping neon colours which literally blew my mind!
I guess one thing that’s for sure is that however you wear animal print, it has got to be loud! Like the animal print seen in collections such as Wes Gordan’s FW21 for Carolina Herrera, where he used giraffe prints in black and white and plum red.
Another major label that has gone for animal print in recent collections is Roberto Cavalli – whose new creative director Fausto Puglisi, has a wealth of experience working at the intersection of fashion and celebrity. There are zebras, jaguars and tigers everywhere, all blown up and exaggerated in bold patchwork collages and trompe l'oeil effect jacquards. Giant animal fang shaped heels embellish the footwear and are used as clasps in leather clutches.
So although animal print seems to be back, it has a different feel. In fact, post Covid19 animal print is unapologetically screaming to be let out!
